This review article found that laparoscopic antireflux surgery is a very effective and long-lasting treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Cassidy et al developed and implemented a set of multidisciplinary standardized interventions to reduce postoperative pulmonary complications in patients. The I COUGH program emphasizes incentive spirometry, coughing and deep breathing, oral care (brushing teeth and using mouthwash twice daily), understanding (patient and family education), getting out of bed at least 3 times daily, and head-of-bed elevation.
