This book, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery: A Companion to Specialist Surgical Practice, is in its second edition and is intended mostly for general surgeons, vascular surgeons, surgical trainees, and specialists who are interested in vascular medicine. The success of the first edition of this series naturally has demanded the publication of the second edition. With the change of the times, the editors have fully revised, added, or replaced chapters to cover endovascular surgery, amputation, coagulation problems, and other issues. They have compiled a group of experts to write each and every chapter of the book. A significant aspect of this book is the authors' general interest in writing the chapters with a focus on evidence-based medicine. Therefore, the fundamental aspects of vascular disease and surgery have been covered. Because evidence-based medicine requires a treatment modality that is of proven benefit, some of the chapters may be skewed toward conservatism. However, certain chapters such as those on the endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm give the details of the procedure's performance even though it has not yet been proved effective. On the other hand, balloon angioplasty with stenting for renovascular hypertension is a proven entity of therapeutic benefit but did not get a separate chapter and is hidden within the sections on renal and mesenteric artery disease. Eversion carotid endarterectomy is not mentioned, but the editors did include a chapter on angioplasty and stenting of the lower extremity for vascular disease.
