This film has been produced in an effort to make visualization of the great vessels of the abdomen and of the extremities available to smaller communities. Standard x-ray facilities and a minimum of special equipment can produce diagnostic angiograms if utilized properly. Technique has been standardized so that comparable films may be produced under varying circumstances.
The demonstration of various forms of arterial disease, particularly the pattern of obstruction in occlusive arteriosclerosis, is of inestimable value in evaluating the type of treatment suitable for a particular patient. Safe, satisfactory intraluminal visualization of the major arteries is the best corroborative diagnostic tool available to substantiate a clinical diagnosis of arteriosclerosis obliterans.
In over 1,000 examinations, the only significant complication has been the unilateral loss of one kidney due to improper needle placement.
