One of the more useful functions of the computer is the collection and assemblage of bibliographic material relating to any subject, and in this respect it provides a new service that libraries can provide for their readers.
The present book is an excellent example and assembles bibliographic material on thermal, electrical, chemical, and radiation burns. The bibliography of cold burns is also included. This bibliography includes 9,000 citations collected from more than 4,000 publications written by 5,200 primary authors in 27 languages. The enormous and painstaking effort is self-evident and it was greatly facilitated by the use of MEDLARS. Present plans of it are that it will be published on a nonprofit basis, with all proceeds directed towards maintenance of an up-todate supplement series of references to be issued each two years.
