This second edition of the series of books edited by Geoffrey Bourne has been organized with the intention of summarizing and presenting the important work that has been done in the field of bone growth and physiology

It has now expanded into a threevolume work from the original version that was published 15 years ago. Volume 1 of the present edition deals with the nature and behavior of bone cells, the structure of the organic matrix of bone, and bone strength. Volume 2 deals with the blood supply to bones and mechanisms of bone formation, bone growth, and the role of hormones and vitamins in the formation and maintenance of bone. Volume 3 deals with the biophysical principles affecting bone structure, bone growth in the fetus, and the internal remodeling of bones.
