In his preface Dr. Marks says he hopes this book will be of use as a succinct reference to the medical student in his first year, through his specialty training, and at all times; Dr. Holden in a foreword says it should be of great assistance to surgeons. It is true that it is a succinct volume, covering the entire body in 598 pages. Much of the material is a compendium of gross anatomy, with some correlation with embryology, to which has been added a smattering of pathology and a statement of some operations performed.
But surgical subjects do not get the treatment they deserve.
