The tumor pathology fascicles published by the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, since their inception, have established and maintained a standard of superior quality. This most current publication continues in this tradition. This is the "second edition" of this Armed Forces Institute of Pathology monograph; the first was written by Philip M. LeCompte, MD, and published in 1951.
Although the subject matter, in absolute numbers of available clinical cases, represents a small fraction of all tumor cases that would be encountered by any one surgeon, the current medical and biological interest in the manifestations of the neoplasms of extra-adrenal paraganglionic tissue has never been greater than at this present moment.
