To the Editor.–In the September issue of the Archives (111:955, 1976) there appeared an article by Drs Chung and DenBesten entitled "Duodenojejunostomy in Gastric Operations for Postbulbar Duodenal Ulcer." Although the authors did not specifically state that the method they described to manage a difficult duodenal stump was original with them, in glancing over their reference list, there was no mention that the method had been previously described. Therefore, the reader was left with the impression that duodenojejunostomy as a method of managing a difficult duodenal stump represented an original contribution.
I am somewhat amazed that the authors apparently were not familiar with the original description of this method, which was first used experimentally by Dr William 0. Barnett of the University of Mississippi and published in Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics (113:197, 1961).
