Microcirculation is a two-volume set based on the proceedings of the First World Congress for the Microcirculation, held in Toronto in 1975. In 760 pages, it covers 247 different articles by 644 authors in 23 separate categories. It reads like a collection of abstracts-staccato, pithy, technical. In the abstract form, an author cannot thoroughly develop the concept, technique, observation, or interpretation that is his contribution. Accordingly, with so many authors, subjects, and articles, it does not flow easily, nor does it fully develop current knowledge on any one of the many areas of investigation touched on. However, it is comprehensive in its survey of current research in microcirculation and, in itself, is a testimony to the vigor and breadth of the research in this multidisciplinary field.
