This is volume 3 of a six-volume series on gynecologic surgery produced by the authors from the Jessop Hospital for Women, Sheffield, England. The other five volumes concern themselves with surgery for infertility and problems of pregnancy, as well as vaginal, vulvar, and abdominal procedures for benign conditions.
The division of gynecologic surgery for benign and for malignant conditions is a somewhat artificial one. The decision as to when a mass is malignant may await the pathologist's report after the surgery has been performed. Fistulas, uterine bleeding, hematomas, relaxations, and urinary tract injuries occur with both benign and malignant disease, and oncology may be difficult to separate. The subject of gynecologic malignant disease, however, is well covered by the authors.
