This book is said to be directed toward house officers and medical students who wish to learn the basic fundamentals of hand surgery. The implication is that the book is not designed for specialists in hand surgery. With some shortcomings, the book attains its stated and implied goals.
The book has an unusual format: pages for notes are alternated with pages of the text and illustrations. This seems to have some advantages, but less space for notes would probably have sufficed. The print is quite readable. In general, the sketched illustrations are successful and add to the text. Some of the photographs are superfluous. Those in Fig 109 add little to the drawings.
