This is a 204-page, before-and-after picture book that documents the work of Drs Kaplan and Giler at the Beilinson Medical Center and the University of Tel Aviv, Israel. Lavish illustrations present the authors' experience with CO2 laser operations that range from wart removal to mastectomy.
The written text is confined to approximately 25 pages, and consists of descriptions of technique and the authors' justification for preferring CO2 laser scalpels over more traditional surgical methods. The wide spectrum of experience that is presented demonstrates that CO2 lasers can be used to accomplish successfully a variety of (primarily) dermatologic and head and neck procedures, with minimal blood loss and an alleged decrease in postoperative pain. Numerous patient photographs demonstrate superior results; however, few facts can be gleaned from this presentation of data, because no comparison with standard technique has been made.
