This is intended as an organizational manual for the anesthesiology resident during the cardiac anesthesia rotation.
Chapters are organized in outline format containing protocol information; unfortunately, some of the accompanying text is meager, consisting of nonproductive lists with little useful content. The chapter on postoperative care is, in contrast, fact-filled. The outline format contains several typographical errors that are difficult to pick up, which results in potential confusion. An example is page 5, item 2 (d), where "decreased" should be "in creased." Such errors are relatively rare in this first edition.
Tinker's chapter on preoperative assessment is especially informative and is presented in a casual, conversational style that is obviously based on substantial clinical experience. He highlights the terminology and test results from the cardiologist's preoperative assessment that are of most practical interest to anesthesiologists.
This volume is not aimed at the practicing specialist in cardiac anesthesia, although I suspect
