To the Editor.—Highlighting vascular-related structures in gastrointestinal endoscopy with optical filters1 was adapted to observe the venous structure of a female breast.
A 1-mm-thick Hoya R62 red filter was attached to a 90-mm macro lens on an Olympus OM1 N camera with a Vivitar 2800D flash; this filter prevents blue light reflection from a surface that would then appear black.
Panatomic-X film2 set at ASA 80 was used for both unfiltered and filtered photographs. Figure 1 shows an unfiltered view of a 25-year-old woman's breast; Fig 2 shows a red-filter view highlighting the venous structures. This brief communication may prove of interest in observing vascular-related structures of the breast.
