This 330-page book is a collection of manuscripts that were presented at the Second International Symposium on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), Jerusalem, Sept 8-11, 1985. The chapters range from concise up-todate reviews on various aspects of IBD to detailed reports of recent research. The majority of the chapters are quite well written and adequately illustrated. Despite the varied type settings from chapter to chapter, there are no major problems with readability and few typographical errors.
The chapters cover all aspects of IBD, from etiology and pathogenesis to clinical assessment and treatment (medical and surgical). The authors either present both sides of a controversial issue or there are different chapters reporting on various aspects of a controversial issue. This well-balanced approach is one of the strong points of the book.
