To the Editor.—After reviewing the study by Moylan and colleagues,1 two questions came to mind: Why did the authors deem it necessary to revalidate their first study2? Was the second study1 paid for by the individuals?
Several other problems arose as I read the report.1 First, the authors state that the same surgical team was used at both facilities, yet they discuss a team being together for three months. In the 21 months of this study, teams could have been changed seven times. Several years ago, Condon et al3 published a study that showed an increased infection rate as new interns and residents were rotated through surgery. Could the same be true for the study of Moylan et al1?
The authors describe the disposable fabric used but only describe the reusable fabric as 100% reinforced cotton. This term is not familiar to me.
