This book was intended to present an interdisciplinary approach to the study of malignant neoplasms of the liver, pancreas, and biliary tree. Contributors are from Europe and the United States and present a remarkably high-quality book with excellent illustrations. The book begins with chapters entitled "Functional Histology of the Liver and Biliary Tree" and "Functional Histology of the Exocrine Pancreas," which, in truth, are broad-range summaries of anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, and histology. These chapters include pertinent references to clinical manifestations. The surgical pathology section provides clinical observations and describes manifestations of tumors customarily found in hepatobiliary and pancreatic tissues. Photographs of gross specimens and photomicrographs in this chapter are excellent. Diagrams and the TNM staging classifications with reference to clinical experience are included.
