This is for me a seminal honor from my colleagues. The WSA was the first surgical society into which I was elected as a member. During these years, the meetings have been informative and we have developed many warm and endearing friendships. The office of the presidency, for over 100 years, has been occupied by numerous distinguished surgeons. We are proud that the WSA was consulted in 1935 to formulate a plan, which led to the establishment of the American Board of Surgery. Thomas Joyce, of Portland, Ore, represented the WSA.
