There is little chance of this cultural change without support from departmental leadership and broad faculty participation, and an academic incentive program can further encourage and reward faculty participation in this teaching activity. The American College of Surgeons/Association of Program Directors in Surgery curriculum provides a Guidebook for Program Directors with excellent materials for faculty development in motor skills learning to further enhance their teaching effectiveness in this new arena.
