RT Journal A1 Kittisupamongkol W T1 DUodenal hematoma in thrombasthenia JF Archives of Surgery JO Archives of Surgery YR 2009 FD January 19 VO 144 IS 1 SP 93 OP 94 DO 10.1001/archsurg.2008.514 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archsurg.2008.514 AB In the August 2008 issue of Archives, Weil and colleagues1 describe an interesting case of a man with duodenal hematoma. The authors conclude that the patient had no apparent risk factors; I disagree. The authors do not include Glanzmann thrombasthenia among the different possible diagnoses. While duodenal hematoma from such platelet-aggregation defect is reported to manifest in childhood,2- 3 the possibility that the patient has Glanzmann thrombasthenia cannot be ruled out from the initial presentation.1,4 Bleeding time must be performed to search for this detrimental disease.
