I read with interest the letter by Edelman and colleagues commenting on our article1 that weighed the value of a gastrographin study after laparoscopic gastric banding. As a physician and a scientist, I still believe that a gastrographin study2- 4 may not be clinically necessary, but I caution young physicians or those at the beginning of their experience who do not perform enough laparoscopic gastric bandings to stay on the more conservative side of the curve, given the quite aggressive legal system in this country.
