All patients were entered in the study from their index HGSBO presentation and we did not track previous episodes of SBO. We did not record the exact location of HGSBO, as we did not believe this was relevant to our objective. The etiology of HGSBO with regard to adhesions and hernia between the immediate and delayed surgery groups was summarized in Table 2.
