The article “Laparoscopic Approach for Suspected Early-Stage Gallbladder Carcinoma” by Cho et al1 in the February issue of the Archives describes a new paradigm for treating early-stage gallbladder carcinoma (GBC). The authors have treated the early stage of GBC, including the T2 stage, through the laparoscopic approach with minimal lymphadenectomy. Carcinoma of the gallbladder is a very rare malignancy, with an incidence of 0.8% to 1.2%, and is the most common biliary tract malignancy.2 The authors treated 18 cases of GBC over a period of 3 years.
