RT Journal A1 Cho J, Han H, Yoon Y, Ahn K, Kim Y, Lee K T1 IS laparoscopic surgery for early gallbladder cancer less invasive or dangerous?—reply JF Archives of Surgery JO Archives of Surgery YR 2010 FD August 1 VO 145 IS 8 SP 798 OP 799 DO 10.1001/archsurg.2010.136 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archsurg.2010.136 AB Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is currently the treatment of choice for benign gallbladder disease. Nevertheless, if GBC is preoperatively suspected, then open surgery is recommended for performing extended cholecystectomy including lymphadenectomy. Laparoscopic lymphadenectomy is now widely used for treating colon cancer2 and gastric cancer.3 The efficacy of laparoscopic lymphadenectomy for these 2 malignancies has been reported to be adequate in terms of the oncologic aspects. If primary GBC can be radically resected and the lymph node can be adequately dissected under laparoscopy in terms of the oncologic aspects, then the laparoscopic approach could be an alternative treatment for selected patients with early stage GBC.
