RT Journal A1 Itani KF T1 OPen mesh repair of ventral incisional hernias with tacker with less complication—reply JF Archives of Surgery JO Archives of Surgery YR 2010 FD October 1 VO 145 IS 10 SP 1022 OP 1022 DO 10.1001/archsurg.2010.201 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archsurg.2010.201 AB The investigators of our study selected an open technique that does not replicate the laparoscopic repair in an open way like the sublay Stoppa repair or one of its variations. As such, they selected the Chevrel repair, which requires less flap dissection than either the Ramirez or Stoppa repairs and is easier to perform with less of a steep learning curve. The technique Dr Mohammadhosseini describes is a modified Stoppa repair, which requires no flap elevations and which others have described with some variation in this journal.2 These variations in the placement of a sublay mesh are appealing but were not shown to reduce the incidence of seroma or other complications in prospective trials. For the purpose of our prospective randomized trial, a procedure with a proven track record had to be selected.
