It may exist in one of several variant forms and is usually associated with another cardiac anomaly. We have recently encountered such an aberrant vena cava-left atrial communication coexisting with an equally unusual cardiac defect, the double-outlet right ventricle. This case is presented because a review of the literature fails to reveal a report of a similar case, and to illustrate the difficulties inherent in differentiating this anomaly from other similar but less complex cardiac defects.
