Recently, 2 articles1- 2 have been published in the Archives of Surgery that question the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB). Although a scientific dialogue is essential for the advancement of medical and surgical practice, the dialogue must be balanced and fundamentally sound. These recent publications1- 2 fall short of this type of dialogue. Both studies contain various limitations and are contradictory to a preponderance of well-controlled clinical studies recently published in the peer-reviewed literature. Specifically, we would like to call your readers' attention to the following important facts.
