We congratulate Quante et al on their successful performance and analysis of a series of major abdominal operations on patients receiving concurrent dual antiplatelet therapy. We commend the authors for accepting the challenge of performing these medically complicated operations and sharing their experience. It was inspiring and reassuring to hear that, with appropriate planning, these surgical procedures can be safely performed for this complex patient population. Quante et al astutely emphasize the importance of understanding of the risks and the expectations of these surgical procedures, for both the medical team and the patients, in order to make individualized decisions regarding the perioperative management of antiplatelet therapy.
