The results of this complex data analysis should be interpreted cautiously considering the retrospective nature of the analysis, the absence of information on a significant amount of key prognostic variables, and the mixture of organ transplant recipients. That being said, the article makes some valuable conclusions that are both provocative and hypothesis generating. Most notable are the data suggesting that patients who develop thicker melanoma after transplantation have more aggressive disease and lower survival rates compared with patients not undergoing transplantation. This finding implies that more aggressive screening and early detection of melanoma are vital.
