Gallagher et al1 raise important questions for all medical practitioners in their article on the persistent next-day effects of excessive alcohol consumption on laparoscopic surgical performance. Although their 2 studies involved a small number of participants, the magnitude of measured effects was substantial. Significantly, the results were derived from studies using the Minimally Invasive Surgical Trainer Virtual Reality simulator, which is the most comprehensively validated virtual reality simulator in medicine.2
