I am pleased to once again provide a summary of the activities at the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for the Archives of Surgery. At press time, I was concluding my tenure as executive director of the college, so this year I would like to review the progress that the ACS has made in the last decade and to discuss potential changes that are likely to affect the surgical profession in the coming years.
