TY - JOUR T1 - Disparities in emergency trauma care: Really so “downwardly”? AU - White F, Zwemer F Y1 - 2010/06/01 N1 - 10.1001/archsurg.2010.99 JO - Archives of Surgery SP - 603 EP - 604 VL - 145 IS - 6 N2 - We have several concerns regarding the authors' study methodology and underlying assumptions. First, the database that they used (National Trauma Data Bank) is limited to information regarding patients admitted to a hospital. While admission is often an inevitable disposition, patients often choose not to be admitted for a variety of reasons, including economic ones. It is probable that selection bias artificially increased the observed mortality rates of this inherently more seriously injured population.
