TY - JOUR T1 - MOre bad news for the uninsured—reply AU - Rosen H, Saleh F, Lipsitz SR, Rogers SO, Gawande AA Y1 - 2010/06/01 N1 - 10.1001/archsurg.2010.101 JO - Archives of Surgery SP - 604 EP - 605 VL - 145 IS - 6 N2 - As always in using a preexisting database to perform outcomes research, each database has its own set of limitations. We reviewed the limitations inherent in the National Trauma Data Bank in our discussion. While selection bias may play a role given that the database contains only admitted patients, this fact does not discount the concerning findings elucidated in our study. Differences in the rate of patient acceptance of admission following trauma are unlikely to account for a large proportion of the difference in outcomes; in any case, it remains alarming if it is for financial reasons.
