TY - JOUR T1 - IS laparoscopic surgery for early gallbladder cancer less invasive or dangerous?—reply AU - Cho J, Han H, Yoon Y, Ahn K, Kim Y, Lee K Y1 - 2010/08/01 N1 - 10.1001/archsurg.2010.136 JO - Archives of Surgery SP - 798 EP - 799 VL - 145 IS - 8 N2 - Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is currently the treatment of choice for benign gallbladder disease. Nevertheless, if GBC is preoperatively suspected, then open surgery is recommended for performing extended cholecystectomy including lymphadenectomy. Laparoscopic lymphadenectomy is now widely used for treating colon cancer2 and gastric cancer.3 The efficacy of laparoscopic lymphadenectomy for these 2 malignancies has been reported to be adequate in terms of the oncologic aspects. If primary GBC can be radically resected and the lymph node can be adequately dissected under laparoscopy in terms of the oncologic aspects, then the laparoscopic approach could be an alternative treatment for selected patients with early stage GBC.
