The author while on a Guggenheim fellowship at the University of Lyon undertook a study of the case material of Professor Mallet-Guy, and, at the same time, elicited similar information through correspondence from a number of people elsewhere interested in pancreatitis. It contains much useful information; and, because of his clinical interest, he wisely makes no attempt at an encyclopedic treatment of these conditions. Line drawings are effectively used. His presentation is clear and interesting. He draws no unusual conclusions, but rather attempts to evaluate those which already exist. Of the ten chapters included, those on operative and nonoperative treatments are the most informative. It serves best the purposes of the residents in training, for this book provides an adequate orientation to these two difficult diseases.
