N2  - In the grand sweep of his understanding and contributions, the life and work of Harvey Cushing stands as a landmark in the history of medicine. Ina renewal of our acquaintance, on the occasion of his centennial, with a selected group of Cushing's papers, so that we may be spared the penalty of making "new discoveries" because the old ones were forgotten,the American Association of Neurological Surgeons has sponsored this assemblage of papers selected from among 330. These writings at once underscore the total scope of his interest and work, and its influence on medicine. For the milestones of his career are also those of the specialty he labored so hard and so successfully to advance.His papers reflect the intensity and breadth of his work over the years.
