It was, therefore, with interest that I read Dr Rutkow's article in the Archives (113:718-720, 1978). He recommended that "full normal activities not be resumed for two to three months by the nonathletic and for six months by the athlete," regardless of the clinical hematologic and serological recovery. It would be important that Dr Rutkow give data to support his recommendations from a "critical review" of the literature. Although the discussion part of his article is very good, and he quoted the evidence that "it takes from 14 to 28 days for the capsular and trabecular changes to progress sufficiently to permit rupture," the following questions need to be answered before one would accept his recommendations: From the review of the SN - 0004-0010 M3 - doi: 10.1001/archsurg.1979.01370270116030 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archsurg.1979.01370270116030 ER -
