TY - JOUR T1 - PEritoneovenous shunting in the management of malignant ascites AU - Straus AK, Roseman DL, Shapiro TM Y1 - 1979/04/01 N1 - 10.1001/archsurg.1979.01370280143022 JO - Archives of Surgery SP - 489 EP - 491 VL - 114 IS - 4 N2 - • The incapacitating, malignant ascites of 37 patients were treated with peritoneovenous shunt using the LeVeen valve. Palliation of ascites was achieved in 27 of 37 patients until they died of their underlying diseases. In ten of the 37 patients, no long-term palliation was accomplished. Complications relating to the shunt procedure were noted in six patients. No evidence of abnormal malignant dissemination was noted. We concluded that the peritoneovenous shunt can be used with relative safety to manage progressive malignant ascites.(Arch Surg 114:489-491, 1979) SN - 0004-0010 M3 - doi: 10.1001/archsurg.1979.01370280143022 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archsurg.1979.01370280143022 ER -
