Whether one agrees with the need for a given operation is not germane. The authors' discussion of rationale for various operations is usually properly documented, in that this is a description of a technical procedure and not necessarily the author's choice of procedure for the given condition.An excellent range of nonmalignant gynecologic disease is presented; however, too much space seems to be allotted to most of the procedures. It is not necessary to spend 19 excellent photographs to describe a dilation and curettage. It is not necessary to treat the management of each broad ligament pedicle separately when the technical procedure is merely a duplication. In the United States, at least, the Manchester (Fothergill) operation has not been given the degree of exposure allotted to it in this text.
