The list of contributing authors is impressive. As in the other volumes in this series, the presentations are generally clear and concise. There is a minimum of superfluous detail in the illustrations.I found the review of this book to be a difficult task. It is a most useful reference book for explaining procedures to medical students and pediatric house staff; however, the variation in depth with which various subjects are treated makes it less suitable as a reference book for surgeons. The encyclopedic nature of the book enhances these discrepancies and there is a wide swing from a primer description of the technique for removal of a rectal polyp to a very extensive exposition of adrenal gland surgery.
