N2  - This volume is arranged into 11 major categories, the division being largely on the basis of anatomical location. The list of contributing authors is impressive. As in the other volumes in this series, the presentations are generally clear and concise. There is a minimum of superfluous detail in the illustrations.I found the review of this book to be a difficult task. It is a most useful reference book for explaining procedures to medical students and pediatric house staff; however, the variation in depth with which various subjects are treated makes it less suitable as a reference book for surgeons. The encyclopedic nature of the book enhances these discrepancies and there is a wide swing from a primer description of the technique for removal of a rectal polyp to a very extensive exposition of adrenal gland surgery.
