News items of appointments, promotions and developments in the field of surgery and related disciplines are invited.Dr Frank N. Cochems Competition.—The University of Colorado School of Medicine announces the 15th annual Cochems Competition. A prize of $2,500 will be awarded to the author of the best paper concerning "thrombophlebitis and basic vascular problems." It should be concerned with the mechanisms or processes of vascular disease, particularly thrombosis, but not restricted to it. Eligibility is limited to physicians subject to US income tax regulations. Entries must be received in triplicate on or before Nov 30, 1979.
